The eighth-graders in Nicholas Gaona’s class at Carl Sandburg Middle School may not be able to train a police dog. But they’re awesome at naming them. Students submitted the winning name, “Ranger,” in a Mundelein Police Department contest this year to name the newest member of its K-9 team. For its reward, the class received a pizza party and a visit from Ranger and his handler, MPD Officer Kevin Freese on Nov. 17.
