Student writer publishes first blog

It took a pandemic for Carl Sandburg eighth-grader Kennedy Gallagher to truly appreciate school. But she’s always been passionate about writing. So when students were told about an opportunity to be published on a blog, Kennedy stepped forward.

Eighth-graders name new MPD K9

The eighth-graders in Nicholas Gaona’s class at Carl Sandburg Middle School may not be able to train a police dog. But they’re awesome at naming them. Students submitted the winning name, “Ranger,” in a Mundelein Police Department contest this year to name the newest member of its K-9 team. For its reward, the class received a pizza party and a visit from Ranger and his handler, MPD Officer Kevin Freese on Nov. 17.

Virtual Gallery highlights middle school artwork

Aside from a school art show or a stroll past classrooms, it’s not likely you’ll see much of the artwork created by most middle school students. But that’s not the case at Carl Sandburg Middle School where a Virtual Art Gallery highlights artwork from District 75 sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students in an online collection. From pottery to paintings, the art is photographed and posted on a webpage for all to see.

The Grainger Foundation honored for recording studio donation

It was a moment years in the making. Three Carl Sandburg Middle School musicians and their teacher, Moulee Gupta, recorded a song Monday morning inside their new recording studio while John Griffin of Griffin Audio Media in Grayslake recorded them from a mixing board in the next room.
