Qualification for Free Busing

The district provides free transportation for any district student who resides:
  • At a distance of 1.2 miles or more from his or her assigned school, or
  • At a distance of less than 1.2 miles from his or her assigned school where walking to a school, pick-up point, or bus stop would constitute a serious hazard due to vehicular traffic or rail crossing.
Parent(s) / guardian(s) who believe a hazardous condition exists on their child’s walk to school may file a petition with the board requesting free transportation.

Space-Available Busing for Childcare

Any parents may request before or after school busing to a childcare location that is 1.2 or more miles from the child’s school by clicking here:

School_Bus_D75
   • Alternative Busing Form (2024-25)
   • Family Busing Form
(for families that received an email notification)

Alternatively, parents may call the District Registrar at 847-949-2700 to apply.

The annual fee is $121.69 for a full-year of morning or afternoon busing to a childcare location and $243.38 for both morning and afternoon. This fee must be paid in full after busing has been approved and before busing begins. Because a seat on the bus is reserved every day for the child, there is no reduction for children who only need partial week busing.
When a bus is at 80% of capacity, no additional students traveling to childcare will be added. Applications for fully-registered students that are completed by August 1 will be approved or denied before the first day of school.

Bus Schedules / Routes

Bus schedules and routes are determined by the superintendent or designee and are altered only with the superintendent's or designee’s approval and direction. In fixing the routes, the pick-up and drop-off points should be as safe and convenient for students as possible. Students may not change buses or ride home on friend’s buses. Split families with joint custody who both live in the district may request two buses and/or two stops for their children provided a regular weekly transportation routine is established. Parents should contact the district office with any requests. Bus drivers are not allowed to make changes.

Vehicles

Every vehicle used for the transportation of students must pass safety inspections in accordance with state law and Illinois Department of Transportation regulations. The strobe light on a school bus may be illuminated any time a bus is bearing students. The superintendent shall implement procedures in accordance with state law for accepting erratic driving reports. The district will cooperate with the Lake County School Transportation Task Force as well as county and local government agencies that deal with public school transportation safety issues in establishing procedures for school bus accidents.

Charter Bus Services

All contracts for charter bus services must contain the state's clause regarding criminal background checks for bus drivers.
